Sonia is from Newport and has set up a small business designing some rather trendy looking legging-y style jogging bottoms which have a V-shape waistband. So she came up with the cool name of ‘Veggings’ for her brand – nice work Sonia!
Until textile giants Sanko, who own the ‘Jeggings’ brand, heard about her design and took legal action to ban her from using the name and from using denim in her clothing.
Luckily for Sonia, the Intellectual Property Office were firmly on her side and were more than happy to decree that ‘Veggings’ have no link at all to denim and jeans and there was little chance of consumers confusing the two very different looking garments.
Sonia was rightly chuffed to bits about her big win and said: ‘They (Sanko) used their big lawyers to try and scare me off and get me to stop my work but I won my case against them. Who are they to say who can make clothes out of denim and who can’t?’
Good for you Sonia!
It takes guts, determination and a whole load of bottle to stand up to the big boys of the world – and to win!
Aren’t these gorgeous – I love the concept and idea – Well done Girl! ➡➡➡
