It’s always hard to find good employees. You have to write the job advert, get it advertised, published or out there on Social media, wade through all the applicant’s to shortlist suitable candidates, and then comes the dreaded interview day where you finally interview your shortlist of candidates. It’s always frustrating when half of them never even bother to turn up for the interview. 😡😒
I’d like to introduce you to pensioner Joe Bartley, 89. Joe was so bored being retired he put an advert in his local paper asking for work. 😎
The ex-serviceman from Paignton, Devon, said he started getting really bored after his wife Cassie died two years ago, and he found himself alone with not a lot to keep him busy! I am sure we have all found ourselves in the same position at some point or another – perhaps not all of us retired, but at some point in our lives!
However, since the advert went into the newspaper Joe has been offered two jobs – not bad at all for his age! He said he was “overwhelmed by all the attention” and was looking forward to “getting down to the job”. Joe decided to take up the job opportunity at the Cantina Kitchen and Bar in Paignton and started work on Sunday December 4th 2016. His job includes clearing tables and helping others with tasks.
Joe Bartley was met by cheers and applause from customers when he clocked on for the first time at the Cantina Bar and Kitchen in Paignton, Devon.
His first appearance, “was like walking onto a stage to give a bit of a turn”, said Mr Bartley, whose first task was to serve some mince pies. Customers had come in specially to see the ex-serviceman and there had been “tons” of goodwill messages on the restaurant’s Facebook page, said co-owner Queenie Martin. “Most of our staff are young so it’ll be nice to have him. Everybody here is lovely, so he’ll fit in”, she said. Joe also received a pile of fan mail.
If only all potential employees were this proactive! Good work Joe!!
Have you ever employed a more mature person to work for you? How did they fit in and get on with the Job? We would love to hear your experiences if you have any – likewise, if you have been in a position similar to Joe’s, drop us a line as we would like to hear how you are getting on 😁👍
